Weekly Hourly Hiring Report 9/8/20

Highlights

Jobs are up 8% week over week, down 5% month over month and down 2% since early March.

Today is the first day of school for more than 1.8 million kids across the country,  marking the beginning of the next chapter of 2020. We don’t know what the virus will do, or how long kids will be able to attend school in person, but we do know that parents need to work and children need to learn.

We also know there are reasons to be hopeful on the economic front. Even though unemployment is still much higher than before the pandemic, the US unemployment rate fell from 10.2% in July to 8.4% in August—and hiring continues as employers added 1.4 million jobs last month.
